Good afternoon, Cornwall-Lebanon Families,

This is a weekly update on our district operations, as well as notification about a temporary shift in our instructional model for Cedar Crest Middle School.

Cornwall-Lebanon is committed to providing in-person instruction to the greatest extent possible while maintaining a safe environment for our students and staff.

Since this COVID-19 pandemic began, our District efforts have focused on prevention of spread of community cases within our buildings. We are confident that our comprehensive mitigation strategies are working effectively. And, we greatly appreciate the cooperation we have received from our parents, students and staff members.

With the new regulations from the PA Dept of Health and PA Dept of Education, we are required to have an instructional shift to fully virtual learning once we reach a range of specific active positive cases in a school building. In accordance with this, we are updating the CLSD COVID-19 Dashboard on our website to reflect these new requirements and the current number of active positive cases in each building.

As a result of the current active positive cases at Cedar Crest Middle School, we are temporarily moving our Cedar Crest Middle School students in the Blue/Gray Hybrid learning option to a fully virtual environment Monday, Dec. 14 and Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020.

All Cedar Crest Middle School students in the Blue/Gray Hybrid learning option should report for synchronous online at-home learning at 7:55 a.m., Monday, Dec. 14 and Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020. CCMS students will return to their Blue/Gray Hybrid schedule on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020. (That will be a Gray cohort in-person day).

All other District schools will continue with their current operations.

During these two days that Cedar Crest Middle School will be operating in a fully virtual environment, all middle school students can order a free 2-day meals package (2 breakfasts and 2 lunches). Please complete the survey in your email or on the CLSD website linked here by 6 PM, Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020, and pick up those meals Monday during your selected time period.

With these new requirements, we ask all of our families to have contingency plans in the event that we need to shift to a virtual instructional model quickly in any of our other buildings. If we need to have such a shift at our elementary schools, we are capable of quickly deploying devices for virtual instruction.

In addition to sharing this information about our instructional shift at CCMS, yesterday at 4:00 PM, Governor Wolf issued new orders and restrictions due to COVID 19. As part of these orders, all extracurricular activities in all schools in the Commonwealth are not permitted to occur from December 12, 2020 – January 4, 2021. We will be prepared to resume these activities as soon as we are permitted to do so.

We fully recognize that these changes are difficult for our students, staff, and families. The cooperation of everyone has been critical in allowing us to maintain in-person instruction and student activities as much as possible. We thank you for your continued cooperation and patience during this school year.

Philip Domencic, Ed.D., Superintendent
