Dear CLSD Families,

On Friday afternoon, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court issued a decision which overturned the mandatory mask Order put into effect by the Pennsylvania Department of Health on August 31, 2021.

As a result, the Cornwall-Lebanon School District will follow the guidance approved in the Health and Safety Plan on August 16, 2021, by the Board of School Directors.  As a result of this decision, effective immediately, the wearing of a mask or facial covering is optional for all students, staff and visitors inside our school buildings.  According to the approved Health and Safety Plan, if no order exists, CLSD will educate students, families, and staff about the optional wearing of masks and/or face coverings as a COVID-19 mitigation.

This Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling does not impact the federal requirement to wear masks while riding on public transportation, which includes school buses. Students should continue to wear a mask while riding on school transportation.

The potential remains that the Governor could announce a 21-day emergency order and instill a mask requirement for K-12 public schools in the Commonwealth. If this occurs, the administration will work with our Board of School Directors and will keep our community informed as to any implications to our students, staff and community.

Cornwall-Lebanon School District will continue to maintain our focus on the education of students while maintaining a community of cooperation. We have been able to achieve this with everyone’s respect and civility. This cooperation by our CLSD community continues to be very much appreciated.
