Message to All Falcon Sports Spectators from the Athletic Director

Dear Cornwall-Lebanon School District Students, Families and Community Members,

We are extremely excited for our Cedar Crest fall athletes as they begin their competitions. We know many of you also have been looking forward to this. Unfortunately, due to Governor Wolf’s continued gathering size limits of 25 people indoors and 250 people outdoors, we are unable to admit the normal number of spectators to these contests; and, in some cases, no spectators at all are permitted to attend events. This is not something we want to see happen as we place a high value on the student, family and community support of our Cedar Crest student-athletes. Nonetheless, we must follow Governor Wolf’s gathering size restrictions that are intended to mitigate the community spread of COVID-19.

This spectator limitation especially affects varsity football games and the large crowds of Falcon fans we are used to welcoming to our Home football games on Friday nights. We must have strict spectator limitations in place for each varsity football game, until the Governor’s gathering size restrictions are lifted. The total number of people permitted to be in our stadium is 250 – and that number includes all student athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, referees, media representatives, and spectators for both Cedar Crest and for the opponent team’s school.

This Friday night (Sept. 18, 2020) is our first home football game of the season and the ONLY spectators permitted to attend this event are the parents of our senior football players. No other spectators are permitted, even outside Earl Boltz Stadium, for this Friday’s game. Please know that this pains us greatly and every decision made regarding spectators will be determined on a week-to-week basis. When Governor Wolf’s gathering size limitations are modified, we will communicate with you regarding how that change affects our spectator plans. You can verify spectator limits for every CCHS fall athletic event on the CCHS Athletics Home page.

Please note that this limitation on the number of spectators permitted at events affects every school district in the Lancaster-Lebanon League and in our state. No school is allowing opponent spectators to attend Away games. Again, this is due to Governor Wolf’s COVID-19 mitigation strategy regarding gathering size restrictions.

Cedar Crest High School is committed to keeping our fans connected to our student-athletes and so our high school broadcast video students, under the direction of Mr. Christopher Schwalm, will be live-streaming as many games as possible throughout this entire fall season, including this Friday’s football game! There is NO charge for this service. We encourage you to join us in cheering on our Falcon athletes from the comfort of your home. You will find the link to this Friday’s game, and to every scheduled live-streamed game, here: https://www.cchstoday.com/.

Thank you so much for your patience and support throughout all the challenges we continue to face. It has been truly a total team effort in helping to keep our kids safe and enabling them to play the sports they love again! Thank you!

— Mr. Groff
