CLSD Announces Purchase of Adjacent Land at Public Auction

Cornwall-Lebanon School District was the winning bidder of the former Henry and Sandra Smith farm at a public auction held Thursday, October 24, 2019. The 89.5-acre farm is located at the corner of S. Lincoln Avenue and E. Evergreen Rd. in South Lebanon Township, directly across from the Cedar Crest campus.

The Administration and Board of School Directors discussed the opportunity to purchase this land at the October 14, 2019, Public Work Session. During discussion of the agenda item, concerns were expressed about safety and the additional traffic congestion that would result in potential development of that land. Also noted was the need for the District to consider distant long-term land needs. Currently, the District leases 13 acres of land from the Lebanon VA Medical Center for athletic field use.

“Cornwall-Lebanon School District is pleased to have been able to make this once-in-a-lifetime land acquisition,” said Dr. Philip Domencic, superintendent. “With almost three thousand students and staff members daily on the Cedar Crest campus, it is critical that we preserve the integrity of our campus.

“We realize that this purchase may be for a time that we may not be around to see,” said Domencic. “Ultimately, we believe this is in the best interests of our students and our community. The District is now is a position to make future plans that will benefit generations of students.”

At the November 18, 2019, regular meeting of the Board of School Directors, an action for ratification of the purchase agreement will be on the agenda.
