Hannah was named the 2019 Cedar Crest High School Student of the Year at the Board of School Directors meeting, May 20, 2019.
The daughter of Jack and Leslie Shirey, Hannah has been involved at CCHS in leadership roles since her freshman year. She served as captain of the field hockey and lacrosse teams, Class of 2019 Secretary for two years and Vice-President of the class her final two years. She is a News Anchor for morning announcements, a peer tutor, and a member of Key Club, National Honor Society, Media Club and Peer Mediation group. She founded an English after-school tutoring program at CCHS. Hannah also is a Falcon Friend, Student Ambassador, and Big Sister mentor to an elementary school student.
She volunteers for the Salvation Army, Caitlyn’s Smiles, Cedar Crest Open House and Freshmen Camp, Pennsylvania Student Council State Conference, and Toys for Tots.
Hannah plans to study English at Lebanon Valley College to become a teacher.
“Her bravery, altruistic nature, and genuine kind spirit has no bounds,” said Dr. Nicole Malinoski, CCHS Principal. “She has demonstrated multiple times how she does what is right, even if she is standing alone, and this is more important than anything. Hannah makes the world a better place every day. She naturally makes others feel safe, acknowledged, accepted and cared for. It is her best quality. She not only has changed our school, but she will change our world, through her community service or her work as a future educator.”
