Changes to Act 44 of 2025
Recent changes to Act 44 of 2025 that went into effect January 6, 2026, require all Pennsylvania school districts to notify parents/guardians and staff whenever a weapon, as defined by law and school board policy, is confiscated on school property, to a school-sponsored event, or onto school transportation.
While incidents of this nature are rare in our district and have always been handled promptly and appropriately, the new law specifies how schools must communicate about these events. In the event of such an incident, families will receive a timely notification via Skyward email, SMS text, or phone.
Please note that student privacy laws - Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) - prohibit identifying any student involved.
Our existing safety protocols (visitor screening, secure entry, safety drills, school police officers and partnerships with local law enforcement agencies) remain in full force and will continue to be reviewed. We remain committed to maintaining a safe, secure learning environment and are sharing this information to keep our school community informed and reassured.
