Congratulations to junior Evan Garman and senior Ryan Ney who achieved state recognition through PMEA, the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association. Evan (trumpet) and Ryan (French horn) successfully auditioned into the All State Concert Band after a number of auditions within the state system. They performed at the Kalahari Resort as part of the PMEA state conference and proved to be the best musicians on their instrument at all levels, including District Band (the best of Lebanon, Dauphin, Perry, Cumberland, and Franklin counties) and Region Band (best of 15 counties in south-central PA and the Lehigh Valley) to advance to the state level.
Band Director Scott Munz said, “These students have worked tirelessly since last summer to be prepared for all of their performances and auditions. Their motivation, dedication, and perseverance to achieve is ever-present. I’m proud of the work ethic and commitment to excellence they demonstrate in all of the PMEA ensembles, but especially here in our program at Cedar Crest. They are wonderful role models and work very hard to make our entire team great.”
Mr. Munz also acknowledged their private teachers – Mrs. Suzy Fox and Dr. Christopher Campbell.
Additionally, Ryan also performed as a member of the National Association for Music Education All-Eastern Division Concert Band in April at the Bushnell Theatre in Hartford, Conn. He was one of a select group of Pennsylvania musicians to be included in the ensemble that was comprised of band members from 13 northeastern states. He adds this to the list of accomplishments that include being a 3-time All State Band member.
