At the Cornwall-Lebanon School District, the safety and well-being of our students is a top priority—both in the classroom and online. As part of our commitment to student support, the district uses Bark for Schools, a student safety tool designed to help identify potential concerns and connect students with help when it may be needed.
What Is Bark for Schools?
Bark for Schools is an early-warning safety tool that helps school staff recognize signs that a student may be experiencing a serious safety, wellness, or mental health concern. Rather than focusing on discipline, Bark is designed to help trusted adults provide support when students may be struggling.
How Bark Helps Protect Students
Bark reviews activity within district-provided student accounts and looks for indicators that may suggest a student needs assistance. The system can identify concerns related to:
Self-harm or suicidal thoughts
Cyberbullying
Online predators or unsafe online interactions
Violence, threats, or weapons
Drug or alcohol references
Other content that may indicate a student is at risk
Using technology that analyzes context and tone—not just keywords—Bark helps schools focus on situations that may require attention and support.
What Happens When a Concern Is Identified?
When Bark detects a potential concern in a district-managed account, an alert is sent to designated school staff for review. Trained staff members then evaluate the situation and determine the most appropriate response, which may include connecting students and families with available support resources.
What Bark Does Not Monitor
We understand that families have questions about privacy. Bark for Schools is designed with clear boundaries:
It does not monitor personal devices.
It does not access personal email accounts.
It does not monitor personal social media accounts.
It does not replace the important role of parents, guardians, counselors, or caring conversations at home.
A Partnership Between School and Home
Technology can be a helpful tool, but student well-being is strongest when schools and families work together. If you are concerned about your child’s emotional wellness, online experiences, or safety, we encourage you to reach out to your school counselor or building administration. You never need to wait for an alert to seek support.
By combining caring relationships, open communication, and proactive safety tools like Bark for Schools, the Cornwall-Lebanon School District remains committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where every student can thrive.
