At the Cornwall-Lebanon School District, every secondary student (Grades 6-12) is provided with a district-issued laptop to support learning both at school and at home. These devices are an important educational tool and a significant investment by the district. To help keep repair costs affordable for families when accidents occur, CLSD offers an optional Student Device Insurance Plan.
Why Consider Device Insurance?
While families are never charged for normal wear and tear, accidents such as drops, spills, and cracked screens can happen. Without insurance, families are responsible for the full cost of repairing or replacing a damaged device. Device insurance provides peace of mind and can significantly reduce out-of-pocket expenses when accidental damage occurs.
How the Insurance Works
For an annual fee of $25 per student, families can enroll in the Student Device Insurance Plan. The plan is optional but highly recommended.
When a covered repair is needed:
Families pay only a 10% deductible of the repair cost rather than the full amount.
For example, if a screen repair costs $50, an insured student would pay just $5.
A deductible applies to each repair claim.
Students should bring damaged devices to the Technology Services for service. We have an office in the Middle School as well as the High School.
A loaner device will be provided while repairs are being completed.
Any applicable repair fees must be paid before the repaired device is returned.
What Insurance Does Not Cover
The insurance plan is designed to cover accidental damage repairs and does not cover:
Lost or stolen devices. Families are responsible for replacement costs and must notify the school immediately and file a police report.
Intentional damage or vandalism. Students may be charged the full repair cost and may face disciplinary consequences.
In cases involving lost or stolen devices, administrative review procedures may apply before a replacement device is issued.
Frequently Asked Questions
"Is device insurance required?"
No. Device insurance is optional, but it is highly recommended. Families who choose not to purchase insurance are responsible for all repair or replacement costs associated with device damage.
"Does insurance cover lost or stolen laptops?"
No. The policy covers accidental damage repairs only. Loss and theft are not covered.
"What should my student do if a device is damaged?"
Report the issue to Technology Services as soon as possible, no later than the next school day. Do not attempt repairs yourself or take the device to a third-party repair service.
"Where can I learn more about device expectations?"
Complete information can be found in the CLSD One-to-One Device Handbook available on the district website.
How to Enroll
Families wishing to purchase insurance should complete an insurance enrollment form and submit it with payment. Insurance can be purchased at any time throughout the school year; however, students need to have their device with them to be checked prior to purchasing it after the first day of school. Forms are available in the High School and Middle School Tech offices or the District website Laptop Insurance Form . One form is required for each student. If no form is submitted, the district will consider that a decision not to participate in the insurance program. In that case, families will be responsible for the full cost of any repairs or replacement due to damage.
