Thursday, March 27,9:30 to 10:30 AM, Black Holes & Mythology      Topic Spotlight: Boötes & the ‘Gift’ of the Gods

Be dazzled with striking, immersive animations of the formation of the early universe, star birth and death, the collision of giant galaxies, and a simulated flight to the supermassive black hole lurking at the center of our own Milky Way Galaxy. Afterwards, the show will conclude with a look at the current night sky with a special spotlight on the constellation Boötes and its mythology. Learn about the constellation, the story behind it, and one of the neatest stars in the galaxy. The show concludes with time for questions and discussion.

Thursday, April 24, 9:30 to 10:30 AM, The Secret Lives of Stars      Topic Spotlight: Anthropogenic (Human) Climate Change

In this mixed topic event, enjoy a thirty minute show about stellar evolution and a thirty minute lecture on anthropogenic climate change led by instructor Rich Fried. Not all stars are created equal. Some are massive. Others are tiny; almost insignificant. The specific characteristics of a star will determine what type of life it will lead, how long it might live and even the type of death it will die. In this planetarium show, journey with Patrick Stewart as he “treks” through the Milky Way Galaxy exploring the different types and variety of stars that it holds and peers into their secret lives. Afterwards, the show will conclude with a lecture about the basic science behind current climate change. While the topic has become quite polarizing in the United States, the actual concept behind how and why humans are affecting Earth’s climate system is actually quite simple! The show concludes with time for questions and discussion.
