In presenting Owen DeShong as Ebenezer Elementary School’s Student of the Year at the CLSD Board of School Directors meeting in April, Principal Greg Fulkerson described Owen’s elementary years as being “marked by exemplary leadership, academic excellence, and an unwavering dedication to kindness.”
Owen is the son of Ben and Jenna DeShong. He is a SOAR Ambassador, participated in the Geography Bee, is a member of the environmental studies group and takes 6th grade math.
Mr. Fulkerson commended Owen for displaying a remarkable ability to lead by example, guiding his peers with patience, understanding, and for his natural talent for bringing out the best in others. “Owen’s solid study habits, coupled with his genuine curiosity about the world around him, have not only propelled his own success but also have inspired his classmates to strive for greatness,” he said.
His teachers describe Owen as an exceptional, hard-working student; a leader in the classroom; a positive role model; competitive, but always a good sport.
“As a citizen of our school community, Owen embodies the very essence of what it means to be a good school citizen,” Mr. Fulkerson shared. “He approaches every interaction with kindness, respect, and a genuine interest in others. Owen’s great manners and polite demeanor have earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and teachers. In turn, he treats everyone with the same level of dignity and compassion, creating a warm and inclusive environment for all.”
Outside of school, Owen loves to play baseball for the Lebanon longshots and the Rockies spring Rec team. He also enjoys fishing, hunting and camping with his family.
Congratulations, Owen!
