Images scrolling on the Ebenezer ES Home page represent examples of the essential concepts that students in Mrs. Strack’s 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade art classes created. They are skills or concepts learned during the 1st marking period of 2024-2025 school year:

  • Chalk Pastel (Artwork by Kaitlyn K.) This project was designed to allow the students to experiment with alternate methods of chalk application. They created a ‘mask’ to block where they didn’t want the pastels to go and used their finger to smudge the pastels where they did want the chalk to go. Then we used chalk in a traditional method to add windows and stars. Messy. Very, very messy!
  • 1 Point Perspective (Artwork by Evelyn B.) The students created a ‘non-traditional’ self- portrait using 1pt perspective. They started with 5 squares that were to contain a name or nickname and filled the extra boxes with images that told about their likes. Finally, students used their ruler skills to connect their squares to the vanishing point to make the boxes POP right out of the page. Shazam!
  • Overlapping Shapes (Artwork by Azariah T.) The students used repeating and overlapping shapes to define a workspace. The shapes were then filled with different kinds of lines and colored with color patterns. To finish it off, students used their ruler skills to fill the background with directional lines. Lines, lines, lines!
  • Symmetrical Creatures (Artwork by Dylan R.) This project explored yet another method of creating symmetry. This time they folded paper. Students learned that you can fold a paper and cut from the fold to create 1 shape that is symmetrical or you can fold a paper and cut right in the middle to create two identical pieces; one for each side. Their creatures were assembled using a collage technique where there is no drawing, just cut paper. Well… they did use pencils but only to mark where to cut. We promise!
